Midnight In The City
Words and music by Redentor Jimenez
Well the street lights are on
Lit up like a show on Broadway
And the streak of yellow taxis
Are leading the traffic blaze
And the Empire State, commanding the sky
Her freedom lights are on tonight
And the winners and losers
Blood brothers, ready to fight
On Bleeker Street and Time Square
Its midnight, in the city tonight
Well the black, yellow, red and white
Street markers for the subway trains
But the cold hearts are burning the night
Crying out for a vigilant reign
Asking questions, search for answers
From the leaders, nowhere in sight
Holding on, the promise to
Our children, sleeping in the dark
On Bleeker Street and Time Square
Its midnight, in the city tonight
The skyline looks different tonight
The evening news is putting the show
'bout a soldier who'll never know
the reason, he had to die
Well the tunnel lights are out tonight
Darker than an abandoned train
Homeless sleeps down with the hungry rats
Searching for someone to blame
And Lady Liberty commands the night
Her torch lights up the sky
But the silent and the lonely
Are left stranded in the dark
On Bleeker Street and Time Square
Its midnight, in the city tonight
From the Hudson to 'Frisco Bay
Its midnight, in America tonight
Midnight, midnight in the city
Midnight, midnight in the city

Don't Let Them Know

DON’T’ LET THEM KNOW By Redentor Jimenez
Don’t let them know
Walking around in this great wall
Smile, no don’t smile girl
Just be strong, stronger than them
Feeling hard and looking outrageous
With a slight frown and a crooked smile
Don’t say much, let them wonder
Just to sit here and ponder
Then one day, baby you’ll let loose
The real you will soon break through
Walking tall, talking proud
To the other side of town
Rock and roll lady come follow me
I’ll take you where the wind blows free
Far away from this dusty covers
Before you and I get any older
Mid-Section Lead Guitar (- 1x)
Then one day, baby you’ll let loose
The real you will soon break through
Walking tall, talking proud
To the other side of town
Rock and roll lady come follow me
I’ll take you where the wind blows free
Far away from this dusty covers
Before you and I get any older
Hey baby come follow me
I’ll take you where the wind blows free
Far away from this dusty covers
Before you and I get any older

SEED OF HOPE by Redentor Jimenez
Wendy looks out the window tonight
She’s looking for the light
Hoping for a sign to come
Touch the moon it ain’t so far
Waiting for that falling star
Night’s quiet except for them wrestling thoughts
Counting sheep ain’t enough
A woman’s dream that don’t come true
Her hearts crying I’m failing you
Body’s weak for a child to come through?
But she saw the angels’ lining up behind the moon
They’re showering the seed of hope to help her through
Take a glimpse of a mother’s child, will she ever know?
Sowing the seed of hope, one day will grow
She wants to be all right
The morning drive is harder today
Clock’s ticking away
When work is done, yeah its time to go
Can’t wait to see her Bobby Joe
Head for the mountains or see a show (co’s she…)
But she saw the angels’ lining up behind the moon
They’re showering the seed of hope to help her through
Take a glimpse of a mother’s child, will she ever know?
Sowing the seed of hope, one day will grow
She wants to be all right
Wendy looks out the ridge, catch a sparkle
Circling ‘round the moon
Closed her eyes drenched in hope
Then she whispers her wish on cue
Under the blanket under the stars (she catches)
Bobby’s little boy grin
Their gold rings are shining tonight
Realized its gonna be alright
She held her Bobby through the night (yeah she…)
And they saw the angels’ lining up behind the moon
Showering the seed of hope to help her through
Take a glimpse of a mother’s child, a dream come true
Sowing the seed of hope, one day will grow
They're gonna be all right
They're gonna be alright , no need to cry tonight, the moon is out of sight
Its gonna be alright, no need to cry now Wendy
Lets drive it home tonight, no need to cry now Bobby
Its gonna be alright

In My Dream

IN MY DREAMS by Redentor Jimenez
In my dreams we are dancing
To a waltz that I just wrote
In my dreams you were sleeping
With your head on my shoulder
While the night train took us home
And the time I felt alone
In my dream
In my dreams we are singing
To a song from a play we just saw
In my dreams we are walking
On the beach so cold hand in hand
In my dream I was dying
For losing the words that you wrote
In my dream my world is empty
For losing someone beautiful as you
While the night train took us home
And the time I felt alone
In my dream
While the night train took us home
And the time I felt alone
Then I woke up to find my dream
Sleeping next to me
Sleeping next to me
In my dream
In my dream yeah yeah yeah
In my dream yeah yeah yeah

STARS by Redentor Jimenez
Tonight I’m covered
A blanket of stars
As I lie in a forest
of whispering trees
Step by step I walked
From the heart of the forest
I could hear their ghostly voices
Calling me
So I strayed
Through the night
Like the wind unforgiven
And I played out of sight
Like a willow deceiving
Like candles on windows
So far I can see
By the time I made it home
My stars followed me
So I strayed
Through the night
Like the wind unforgiven
And I played out of sight
Like a willow deceiving
Until the faded lights are all gone
Leaving darkness colder
So I hid
Into the night
From the wind unforsaken
And I played out of sight
Like a willow deceiving
So I prayed
To the stars
Waiting for my light to shine
And I crawled from the night
Like a willow surrendering
Tonight I’m covered
A blanket of stars
By the time I made it home
My stars followed me

KISSING BRIDGE by Redentor Jimenez
Left alone on a summer night
Celtic ring out of sight
I see, I see you in a dream
Hot sun shaded tree
Cool me without a breeze
Of you, without you in a dream
The kissing bridge is calling
Jaded water of a forgotten you
How could I missed you
kissing bridge with you
Our story in another life
You walked with me as my wife
I kissed, kissed you on the bridge
Calling on the summer gods
Embrace the balmy air
Comes the fall, coolness for a schoolboy’s wish
The kissing bridge is calling
Jaded water of a forgotten you
How could I've missed you
kissing bridge with you
The kissing bridge is calling
Faded whisper escaping you
How could I've missed you
On the kissing bridge with you

Let Me In

LET ME IN by Redentor Jimenez
Whisper chilled the air had called my name
A gush without a sound, no one there
Sheltered from the voice that spirits dared
No open words from you nothing’s new
Catch a breathe of sigh to cleanse the yearning
Moments gone from you feels the same
When candle’s exhausted flames still burns to touch
Unspoken words from you nothing’s new
Is there anybody home?
I’m knocking’ at your door
The road was long please let me in
My hearts on the run
Can’t find my way home
I’m lost inside myself please let me in
Siren’s voice sing tonight reveal your soul
Phantom glimpsed of your heart hides the fear
In this echo of black above the crossroad stole
Mixed words of truth from you nothing’s clear
Lost in touch with my forever
World apart in our dreams
Passion intensifies as my muse reappears
In this illusion so real
Co’s nobody’s home
I’m locked outside your door
So strong, please let me in
My heart’s out of line
I’ve wasted so much time
I’m lost inside myself please let me in
I’m lost inside myself please let me in

The Fool

THE FOOL by Redentor Jimenez Key
Baby you tell me I was wrong
And you say I don’t belong
But you keep me hanging on
Hanging on for so long
And you say I’m just a fool
A little boy still in school
So what’s this boy to do
To keep from running
Running scared into the night (can you here me calling)
I can see your shadow bright (under the moonlight)
I don’t care if it’s wrong or right (there’s nothing else to follow)
I feel the breath of life in you
That’s why I’m playing the part of the fool
Can’t you see I’m stuck on you?
Well I used to be so cool
Now I’m a stranger in your space
Just a name with no face
Now the nights are running long
And this boy is not that strong
I don’t care if tomorrow comes
Girl I know I belong
Well its time for me to fly
& When the day that I break through
I want you to know
I’ll never let you go
Running scared into the night (can you here me calling)
I can see your shadow bright (under the moonlight)
I don’t care if it’s wrong or right (there’s nothing else to follow)
I feel the breath of life in you
That’s why I’m playing the part of the fool

Sweet Marie

SWEET MARIE by Redentor Jimenez
She walked into the smoke-filled room
Like a ballerina on a stage
Her body is tight and light as a feather
Helping the band playin’
To give them soul
The lady sang in Spanish Harlem
Every Johnny knew her name
The Latin blood rushing inside her
Danced the rhythm and soul of Santa Fe
You can call her Maria or Marie
And if you feel lucky tonight
You can see her in the sailor moon
When the tides are low
Think of her large Spanish eyes
And sweet Marie will come
To sing and sing and dance and dance
for you (for you)
She carried the crowd down the canyon
like a mule with a heavy load
Her songs read a story ‘bout
her forgotten dreams
left on the street untold
Big eyes from those pretty girls
Were stuck on sweet Marie
And from the outside of the café window
You can see
the contessa for free
You can call her Maria or Marie
And if you feel lucky tonight
You can see her in the sailor moon
When the tides are low
Think of her large Spanish eyes
And sweet Marie will come
To sing and sing and dance and dance
for you (for you)
She walked into the ballroom
Like a senorita Joan of Arc
Her body is tight and lean and mean
Lighting the smoking machine
With a single to spark
Before the night was over
The senorita made the dead man dance
And all the boys were on their knees
Begging sweet Marie
for a second chance
You can call her Maria or Marie
And if you feel lucky tonight
You can see her in the sailor moon
When the tides are low
Think of her large Spanish eyes
And sweet Marie will come
To sing and sing and dance and dance
for you (for you)
Sweet Marie

Red Reyne Washington, D.C.
Redentor, a.k.a. Red Reyne, was born in the Philippines. Red moved to New Jersey when he was 10, and he’s been here ever since. His love for rock and roll, was fixed after first hearing Hey Jude by the Beatles. As a small boy in the islands, he’d always carry around the words of this song, torn from a lyric book and tucked in his back pocket… a near reminder of how a good song should be written. ... more
